SERIES TO PREMIERE ON WWW.WATCHWIGS.COM AND WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WIGS; TRAILER AVAILABLE NOW
Virginia Madsen and Rob Benedict Co-Star; Series Written and Directed by WIGS Co-Creator Jon Avnet
WIGS (www.watchwigs.com and www.youtube.com/wigs), the No. 1 channel for scripted drama on YouTube, today announced the premiere of the all-new drama SUSANNA. Exploring the issue of postpartum depression, the series launches Friday, June 14 (9:00 AM ET/6:00 AM PT) with six new episodes. The remaining six episodes will debut Friday, June 21 (9:00 AM ET/6:00 AM PT).
Starring Academy Award winner Anna Paquin (“True Blood,” “X-Men,” “The Piano”) and Maggie Grace (“Lost,” “Taken”), SUSANNA is the story of two sisters, Katie (Paquin), the mother of a newborn and her younger sister, Susanna (Grace), an investment banker on the rise, who has no interest in becoming a mother. But when Katie develops acute postpartum depression and is hospitalized, Susanna must take care of her sister and her sister’s child, while trying to keep the biggest business opportunity of her life from being derailed by her sister’s illness. In the process, she unexpectedly falls in love…with Katie’s child.
“‘Am I my sister’s keeper?’ This is the thematic core explored in SUSANNA,” said Avnet. “Anna and Maggie’s characters are thrown into a very difficult situation and, as performers, they embraced the challenge fearlessly. The result is a piece that addresses the post-partum syndrome without flinching.”
SUSANNA is written and directed by WIGS co-creator Jon Avnet (“Black Swan,” “Fried Green Tomatoes,” “Risky Business”) and also features Rob Benedict (“Waiting,” “Felicity”) and Virginia Madsen (“Sideways,” “Fire with Fire”), star of previous WIGS series JAN.
WIGS was launched in May 2012 by director/producers Jon Avnet (“Black Swan,” “Fried Green Tomatoes,” “Risky Business”), Rodrigo Garcia (“Albert Nobbs,” “In Treatment,” “Big Love”) and Jake Avnet, and is now the No. 1 channel for scripted drama on YouTube, with more than 40 million views to date and more than 185,000 subscribers. The channel offers high-end original series, short films and documentaries, all starring female leads. The YouTube channel has started production on the web series, a 12-episode scripted drama written and directed by WIGS co-founder Jon Avnet that is slated to premiere later this spring. Anna Paquin and Maggie Grace star in Susanna as two sisters, Katie (Paquin), the mother of a newborn, and her younger sister, Susanna (Grace), an investment banker on the rise who has no interest in becoming a mother. When Katie develops acute postpartum depression and is hospitalized, Susanna must take care of her sister and her sister’s child while trying to keep the biggest business opportunity of her life from being derailed by her sister’s illness. Virginia Madsen and Rob Benedict co-star.
The female-targeted WIGS in February formed a programming, marketing and distribution partnership with Fox, which aims at expanding WIGS’ offerings as well as testing and nurturing dramatic concepts and talent in the digital realm. The idea is to build content that can be programmed on the network and/or other channels. WIGS has more than 130,000 subs and its content has been viewed more than 30 million times. Its offerings include the Julia Stiles-starrer Blue, which premiered its season 2 on March 15; Serena, starring Jennifer Garner and Alfred Molina; and Jan, about a young woman who’s first job goes away starring Madsen, Paquin’s True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer and Caitlin Gerard.
