Maggie Grace is checking out of Code Black.
The Lost grad has exited CBS’ medical drama pilot for creative reasons, TVLine has learned exclusively. The role will be recast.
Based on the festival award-winning Ryan McGarry documentary, Code Black is set in the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation — L.A. County Hospital — where the extraordinary staff confronts a broken system in order to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most.
Grace was slated to play ER residency director Leanne, described as “a force of nature and a force to be reckoned with.”
Previously announced cast members include Marcia Gay Harden and Melanie Kannokada.
Maggie Grace is plotting a return to broadcast TV in a CBS medical drama. The Lost and Taken actress has been cast in Code Black, CBS’ pilot set in one of the busiest ERs in the nation.
Grace plays the ER’s residency director, “a force of nature and a force to be reckoned with.” She joins the recently cast Marcia Gay Harden in the project.
Code Black is described as a medical drama set in the “most notorious ER in the nation where the extraordinary staff struggles in the face of a broken system to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most.”
“Matthew Cooke & I are so excited to share our engagement with you guys! I could not feel more grateful to share my life with this incredible man.” the 31-year-old Taken actress captioned the photo on her Instagram.
“We’re all fancied up for @globalgreen tonight so we thought – let’s ask our friend to take a fancy photo! Since we’ve got the photo thing covered should we just elope?!” she captioned another pic.
Lionsgate’s The Choice has rounded out its cast with Tom Welling, Alexandra Daddario and Maggie Grace.
Teresa Palmer and Benjamin Walker are starring in the adaptation of the 2007 novel by Nicholas Sparks.
The story centers on Travis (Walker) and Gabby (Palmer), who meet first as neighbors in a small coastal town and end up pursuing a relationship that neither could have foreseen. The film will span their love affair over decades as their relationship is ultimately tested by life’s most defining events.
Ross Katz is directing from a screenplay adaptation by BryanSipe. Sparks and Theresa Park are partnering with PeterSafran to produce and finance the film, the first independent feature from Nicholas Sparks Productions. Jason Constantine,president of acquisitions and co-productions, and Eda Kowan, executive vp, acquisitions and co-productions will oversee the project for Lionsgate. Good Universe is handling international sales for the film.
Welling will play Ryan. Welling’s recent work includes Draft Day and Smallville. He’s repped by WME.
Daddario recently appeared on HBO’s hit series True Detective and has wrapped work on San Andreasopposite Dwayne Johnson. She’s repped by UTA and McKeon Myones Entertainment.
Grace, whose previous works includes Taken 2 and the upcoming Tak3n, will play Travis’ sister. She’s repped by UTA and Wishlab.
